Changes

After talking through my design with my lecturer I decided I needed another counselling room and I was wasting a room at the front of the ground floor so I’ve had a bit of a change around of rooms and functions.

I have knocked down a wall to make one big room for my library/classroom area. I now have two counselling rooms, one larger and one smaller and more intimate.

I am pleased with these chances and think it really improves my design.

The Alu-Chair Series

In this book ‘Icons of Design, The 20th Century’ has a great piece on the Eames’ Alu-Chair Series. It’s got great explanation of how aluminium furniture was shunned a lot before the war as it was deemed too expensive. Then after the war the aluminium industry pushed for the use of the metal. Charles and Ray started developing alluminium-framed chairs. They now have a whole collection with lounge chairs, dining chairs,  an ottoman and dining and coffee tables, all manufactured by Herman Miller.

The book also has a great little timeline for some of their key works.

A Great Review

I found this great review of the Eames’ exhibition in London. It has really great information on Charles and Ray and on the exhibition itself. I found out a lot from this article. It also has some awesome pictures from the exhibition, which I was unable to get myself.
